PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a soft magnetic metal powder which has high productivity without impairing magnetic properties when used for an electromagnetic wave absorbing sheet.SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing a metal powder for the electromagnetic wave absorbing sheet which orients and disperses the flat soft magnetic metal powder includes: stirring a soft magnetic metal powder with a pulverizing medium in a vessel having electrolytic water therein, which is added a surfactant and a rust preventive agent and is controlled at least to basicity, and flattening the soft magnetic metal powder (S1); further adding metal soap (S2); stirring the mixture; and subsequently taking out the product from the vessel.
