Provided is an electrically assisted bicycle comprising a so-called single-shaft motor drive unit capable of maintaining satisfactory torque detection capability. The outer periphery of a crankshaft (7a) is provided with: a tubular manual transmission member (28) on which is formed a torque sensor (31) for detecting manual drive force; and a combined force member (29) in which the manual drive force and the auxiliary drive force from a motor (21) are combined. A unidirectional clutch is not installed in the transmission path of drive force through the crankshaft (7a), the manual transmission member (28), and the combined force member (29), and the manual transmission member (28) and combined force member (29) are continually rotated with the rotation of the crankshaft (7a).
