The braking system (2) comprises a brake pedal (3) and a vacuum brake force booster (4) connected to a vacuum source. A unit is provided for detecting a fault, where a counter (6) connected with the brake pedal is activated when an error is detected, which counts each actuation of the brake pedal. The vacuum brake force booster is deactivated when the error is detected and is activated again after a predetermined number of actuations of the brake pedal. A valve (7) is provided for deactivating or activating the vacuum brake force booster.
