A wind powered generator configuration comprises a generator (12) to be operatively connected (32) to a wind turbine (31), the generator comprising a rotor (12b) and a stator, wherein the stator is divided in a circumferential direction into a plurality of stator segments (12a), wherein each of the stator segments extends axially from one end to another end of the stator and each of the stator segments is electrically separated from one another. The configuration comprises further, for each of the stator segments, a power converter (13) operatively connected to that stator segment; and a control arrangement (14) provided for connecting and disconnecting the stator segments through the power converters (13) in response to varying mechanical power produced by the wind turbine.
