Coating steel bands comprises heating the band and applying a liquid metal coating. An aluminium coating is applied before the liquid metal coating. The liquid metal coating comprises (wt.%): up to 1.6 Cr; 6-30 Mn; up to 10 Al; up to 10 Ni; up to 10 Cr; up to 8 Si; up to 3 Cu; up to 0.6 Nb; up to 0.3 Ti; up to 0.3 V; up to 0.1 P; up to 0.01 B; up to 1.0 N; and balance iron. |
