PURPOSE: A display device and an operation method thereof are provided to display various kinds of monotone patterns on a standby screen with the minimum power. CONSTITUTION: A display device and an operation method thereof are to display certain patterns on a standby screen which is displayed on a display panel in a standby mode. The display device includes multiple pixels (PXL); multiple gate lines (GL1 to GLm) and multiple data lines (DL1 to DLn) connected to the pixels; a display panel including a common line (CL) connected to the pixels; and an operation circuit (SMD) to operate the display panel in a standby mode.
