PURPOSE: An attenuator and an attenuating method thereof capable of compensating a phase distortion are provided to compensate the phase distortion of a signal which is generated by a level attenuation. CONSTITUTION: A first attenuation unit (11) attenuates and outputs a level of an input signal. A first phase distortion compensating unit (21) compensates a phase distortion of a signal which is generated by the attenuation of the first attenuation unit. The first attenuation unit includes a serial resistance and a shunting resistor. The first compensating unit includes a capacitor which is connected to the shunting resistor. The capacitor is connected to the shunting resistor in parallel.
