In prodn. of extracts rich in beta-aescin, fresh deep-frozen horse chestnut seeds are thawed, comminuted and extd. with water, and the aescin is pptd. by acidifcating of the extract. To avoid microbial growth during the extraction, disinfectants are pref. added to the water used as extraction solvent. Pref. disinfectants are lower alcohols (pref. MeOH or EtOH), which are pref. used in an amt. of up to 20 vol.%.
