PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for uniformly cooling upper and lower surfaces at high cooling rate. SOLUTION: In the equipment for cooling a hot steel plate which is installed on the hot-rolling line of a steel plate, an upper header for supplying cooling water and upper cooling water jetting nozzles for jetting bar-like cooling water, which are hung from the upper header, are provided on the side of the upper surface of the steel plate, a lower header for supplying the cooling water and lower cooling water jetting nozzles for jetting bar-like cooling water upward in the vertical direction from the lower header are provided on the side of the lower surface of the hot steel plate and it is good to make a pitch W2 of collision points 14 of the cooling water for the lower surface of the steel plate with the lower cooling water jetting nozzles 4 in the width direction of the steel plate into a half of a pitch W1 of the collision points 13 of the cooling water onto the upper surface of the steel plate with the upper cooling water jetting nozzles 3 in the width direction.
