The present invention relates to a milling insert comprising a top side (1), a bottom side (2), and a clearance surface (3) extending between the top side and the bottom side. The milling insert includes at least one cutting edge (5) having two main edges (6) which converge towards a nose edge (7). The cutting edge (5) is formed between two ground surfaces located on both sides of a cutting edge line, that is to say a first clearance surface (8) and a peripheral chip surface (10), wherein the first clearance surface is included in the clearance surface (3) and is off-plane from a secondary clearance surface (9) located at a lower part, and the peripheral chip surface (10) is included in the top side, is higher than a land (12) located inside, is narrower than the first clearance surface (8), and has a width of at least 0.3 mm. The milling insert may be advantageously used in milling tools for gear hobbing. |
