The method involves rotating a hot strip bundle (1) about an axis of symmetry (S), where the hot strip bundle is cooled by a contact of a lateral surface (5) with physical elements (3, 7). An average mantle temperature of the hot strip bundle is determined for detecting temperature for a lateral segment (4) of the lateral surface. A contact time of the lateral segment is adjusted with one of the physical elements depending on the deviation of the temperature of the lateral segment from the average mantle temperature. An independent claim is also included for a device for cooling a hot strip bundle, comprising a lateral segment.
