<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a Ce<SP>3+</SP>activated α-type sialon phosphor showing blue to green emission which can be excited with longer wavelengths than before and is excellent in luminous efficiency, and to provide a light-emitting element using the same. <P>SOLUTION: There is provided a phosphor in which the substitution volume of Al-N is increased relative to Si-N, which is an α-type sialon phosphor which can be excited with ultraviolet to blue light, the sialon phosphor being represented by the following formula: (M<SP>a+</SP><SB>x</SB>, Ce<SP>3+</SP><SB>y</SB>)Si<SB>12-(m+n)</SB>Al<SB>(m+n)</SB>O<SB>n</SB>N<SB>16-n</SB>, wherein M is at least one element selected from Li, Ca, Mg, Y, and lanthanide elements (except La and Ce); m=ax+3y when the valence of M is a, wherein 1.5≤x+y≤2.25 and 0.05≤y≤0.5; and Ce<SP>3+</SP>substitutes the M site. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
