[Class 46] [Also in Group XXIX] A multi-way unitary valve fitting for a water softener has intercommunicating front and rear waterways or chambers, and valves of the conventional screw-down type for controlling the direction and volume of flow of the water. The fitting may comprise a casting 10, Figs. 1, 3, having upper and lower chambers 12, 13 communicating through ports 20, 21, 22, 23 controlled by screwdown valves 27 with rear chambers 16, 18, the chamber 16 having a drain outlet 17 and the chamber 18 a hard-water inlet 19. In normal operation, the hard water entering the chamber 12 passes through the outlet 14 to the upper end of the softener and thence from the lower end thereof through the inlet 15 of the lower chamber to the valve-controlled soft-water outlet 24. During revivification of the softening material, the water entering the chamber 13 passes through-the port 22 into the chamber 16 and thence to the drain outlet 17. The valves controlling the flow of the water are arranged in quincunx. In a modification, the fitting consists of a tubular casting having frontal sections 12, 13, Fig. 4, and rear sections 16, 18 and provided with a cover-plate 34 having apertures for the valves and held in position by Easi-clean covers on the valves. |
