Provided are systems and methods to allow a service provider to manage, query, and dynamically configure the protocols on network facing interfaces as well as the devices on that domain where the service provider may be provisioning services using the IEEE P1904.1 Standard for Service Interoperability in Ethernet Passive Optical Networks (SIEPON). Provided are the systems and methods for using the SIEPON to update an Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE) configuration of a Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) device and for using the SIEPON to gather information from a CPE device.
