Provided is an in-plane switching (IPS) type liquid crystal display device which improves pixel aperture ratio and transmittance. The IPS type liquid crystal display device comprises: a metal line (30) formed on a transparent substrate (10); an inorganic insulating film (50) and an organic insulating film (55) formed on the metal line; a transparent first electrode (60) formed on the inorganic insulating film and the organic insulating film by interposing an inter-layer insulating film (70) faced with each other; and a transparent second electrode (80) with a stripe type slit structure, and drives a liquid crystal by applying an electric field between the first electrode and the second electrode. An output from a thin film transistor is electrically connected to the transparent first electrode or the transparent second electrode through a contact hole (45) passing through the inorganic insulating film or the organic insulating film. The film thickness of the organic insulating film on the metal line is made to be thicker than the film thickness of the organic insulating film of a pixel display area including the contact hole. Thus a protrusion shape part of the organic insulating film is formed on the metal line, and a pixel electrode (60) comprising the first electrode or the second electrode is formed on an image display area including a slant part of the protrusion shape part. |
