The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition containing an extract of Bambusae caulis in Taeniam and inhibiting the onset of inflammatory bowel disease caused by cigarette smoke, a food composition containing the extract and preventing or alleviating the inflammatory bowel disease caused by cigarette smoke, a method for suppressing the expression of inflammatory cytokines using the pharmaceutical composition, and a method for inhibiting a decrease in the number of intestinal lactobacillus using the pharmaceutical composition. Since the pharmaceutical composition of the present invention contains the extract of Bambusae caulis in Taeniam, the pharmaceutical composition decreases the expression levels of MMP12, which is known to destroy the inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1beta, TNF-alpha, and IL-6, concomitant to the onset of the inflammatory bowel disease, MCP-1, elastin, and collagen, and inhibits the decrease in the number of intestinal lactobacillus, thereby being able to be widely used for developing a safe and effective medicine against the inflammatory bowel disease.
