PURPOSE: An event information extraction system extracting event information in a document and a method thereof are provided to extract time expression and event expression from a string, thereby extracting useful event information from the document. CONSTITUTION: A short sentence division unit(410) divides a part of text included in a document into a string of a short sentence unit. When the string includes time expression and event expression, an expression extraction unit(420) extracts the time expression and the event expression. An event information generation unit(430) generates event information based on the time expression and the event expression. A preprocessing unit divides the text into a sentence unit.
