PURPOSE: An intelligent transport system and a traffic information providing method using the same are provided to prevent traffic accidents by providing information and warning a driver by calculating safe speed and judging the generation of a traffic accident. CONSTITUTION: According to a corresponding intelligent transport system, a sensor unit (100) senses fog and icing, traffic accident and accident hazard. A sensor gateway (200) judges the generation of accident hazard on the ground of the sensor data by the sensor unit, and calculates safe speed according to the judgment result, and generates and transmits traffic information. A traffic control server (300) generates and transmits traffic condition information on the ground of the traffic information collected through the sensor gateway.
