An image display device having an auto mode conversion function and a control method thereof are provided to determine the degree of motion of an inputted image automatically and adjust the image through a setting value corresponding to an optimized mode, thereby performing automatic conversion into an optimum mode and enabling a customer to watch an optimized image. A memory(150) stores parameter data for image adjustment according to at least one image mode. A motion determining unit(160) determines a motion variation amount of an image signal inputted from the outside. A controller(170) sets an optimum image mode according to the motion variation amount determined through the motion determining unit. The controller extracts image adjustment parameter data corresponding to the image mode from the memory, and performs adjustment of the input signal. An image processor(120) adjusts an image signal inputted through an input signal processor(110) according to a control signal of the controller, and processes the image signal to be displayed. A display(130) displays the image signal processed through the image processor. |
