Disclosed are an apparatus and a method for providing an augmented broadcast service depending on an audience's choice which increases pleasure of watching by additionally displaying an augmented content such as an image, a video, or a graphic chosen by the audience on a part of a screen. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the apparatus for providing the augmented broadcast service comprises: an authoring server which processes authoring of the augmented contents to provide the augmented broadcast service, with respect to broadcast content; a broadcasting server which transmits, by multiplexing, the broadcast content and the metadata for the augmented broadcast service; and a receiving terminal which plays the broadcast content and processes the augmented content with reference to the metadata for the augmented broadcast service.
