The contactor includes the casing which is formed of a plinth (2) with a base (20) for attachment to a rail, and the housing (3) in which each pole ensures double breaking of the connection by means of two fixed contacts cooperating with moving contacts on a bridge. The electromagnet has its feed terminals (A1,A2) arranged on one side of the coil (51) so as to be fitted into a recess (12) between the pedestal and housing. Another recess (13) accepts the terminals if the coil is reversed. The unused recess in each instance is blocked off.
