A catalyst body (3) is formed with a wave-shape and comprises a paper (1) mainly made of inorganic fiber adhered to a meshed core (2) of aluminum-containing ferrite stainless steel. The paper (1) and the meshed core (2) are combined or fixed by aggregation of a catalytic component comprising mainly inorganic powder and a noble metal component. The paper and the meshed core are pressed together to form the wave-shape and then cut to obtain a wave-shaped base. The base is dipped in a slurry containing the noble metal component and mainly composed of inorganic powder, and is then dried and heat-treated. <IMAGE>
