The invention relates to a method for carrying out the continuous hydrolysis of organic matter, in particular sludge produced during water treatment, in order to provide organic matter which has been rendered hygienic and which can be easily digested and dehydrated, said method including the following steps: pumping (1) the matter to be treated so as to carry out the pressurised injection thereof into a treatment circuit comprising a hydrolysis reactor (11); heating the matter prior to said matter entering the reactor; hydrolysis in the reactor; decompressing (12) the hydrolysed matter prior to the discharge thereof, and discharging the hydrolysed matter, wherein the heating of the sludge involves a heat exchanger (H) between the sludge and the fumes from combustion or incineration, and the reactor (11) being a plug flow reactor that is placed in a recirculation loop (B) formed with the heat exchanger (H) between the sludge and the fumes. |
