A device for registration of the change of refraction index of gaseous and liquid media on the basis of detection of the PPR effect includes a source of linearly polarized light, quarter-wave phase plate, photo-elastic polarization modulator, semi-cylinder of internal reflection with resonance-sensitive gold film on reflecting surface, and photo-detector. Additionally the device includes a Fresnel compensation plate placed between the semi-cylinder and the photodetector and installed on mechanical device that makes it possible to rotate the plate with respect to the axis normal to the plane of incidence of probing radiation.
