The method involves measuring output value of current (I), and a deviation of the value is compared to a theoretical value of current. A function is deduced from the comparison of the deviation of the output current value to the theoretical value, and the function is applied to an electronic control unit (3) e.g. on-board controller, that is connected to a resistive probe (1). A voltage delivered by the probe is measured at a moment and at another moment that is posterior to the former moment. The function is applied to correct voltage gaps, and a value of liquid i.e. oil, level is derived. An independent claim is also included for a system for measurement of a level of liquid.
