METHOD FOR ASSESSMENT OF TRABECULARITY INDEX OF MYOCARDIUM

The method for the assessment of the trabecularity index of myocardium comprises the fixation of the whole heart or the fragments of myocardial segments in 10 % neutral formalin, the processing of the specimen in the alcohols of increasing concentration, the preparation of paraffin blocks. The serial sections are prepared in microtome, 5 µm in thickness, and stained. The specimens are photographed with digital camera connected to microscope. The images obtained are then processed. Thickness of trabecular layer and compact layer is measured at one or several sites of the specimens under study. Then the trabecularity index of myocardium is calculated by a formula.
