The package has a container i.e. tray (1), provided with a bottom (3) and a raised perimeter edge (6). A foodstuff (4) releasing liquids is placed on the bottom of the container. A liquid-impermeable and gas-permeable plastic closure film (2) e.g. single-layer plastic film, is sealed on the perimeter edge without prior modification of gaseous atmosphere within the container. The container includes a plastic material absorbing or non-absorbing layer, which is covered with a film of non-expanded plastic. Lateral walls (5) of the container are terminated in the perimeter edge.
