PURPOSE: To project an optimal light pattern suited to the purpose by generating a light projecting pattern according to a subject image in order to provide a focusing device without erroneous detection even when the contrast of a subject is low or the subject is dark. CONSTITUTION: A subject image obtained by an image pickup part 11 is supplied to a light projection pattern generating part 12. In the light projection pattern generating part 12, a light projection pattern for increasing the contrast of a subject and a prescribed frequency band is generate. Light is projected by a light projecting part 13 based on the pattern generated in the light projection pattern generating part 12. Consequently, by generating a light projection pattern complied with the image of the subject and projecting the pattern on the subject, the contrast of the subject and the prescribed frequency band are increased and focusing accuracy is sharply improved in a focusing device. |
