The method is for detecting the coefficient of friction (mu) used for one braking operation between the wheels (16, 20) and the road for two axle groups (H rear, V front) each containing one of the wheels and one of the brakes (15 or 21). The braking system operating the brakes provides approximate stabilisation of the distribution of the braking power. The method involves first determining the axle group load distribution and the height of the centre of gravity (h) typical for the type of vehicle. For at least one braking operation the instantaneous braking power is then measured and from the instantaneous effective braking powers (pV, pH), the wheel braking factors (AV, AH), the relationship derived in (a) and the value in (b) the coefficient of friction is calculated. |
