PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for stably producing a urethane prepolymer suitable for producing an aqueous resin dispersion in which a urethane resin and an acrylic resin are mixed.SOLUTION: The method for producing an aqueous resin dispersion includes: a step 1 of reacting a polyol (a) with an acid anhydride (b) in a monomer composition (A) containing a (meth)acrylic monomer to produce a polyol (B), thereby obtaining a reaction liquid containing the polyol (B) and the monomer composition (A); and a step 2 of reacting the polyol (B) with a polyisocyanate (c) in the reaction liquid to produce a urethane prepolymer (C).
