BLADELESS OBTURATOR FOR USE IN A SURGICAL TROCAR An obturator assembly (100), comprising: an obturator housing (102); an obturator member (106) mounted to the obturator housing (102), the obturator member (106) defining a longitudinal axis and having proximal and distal ends, the obturator member (106) including an obturator rod (158) and a distally positioned penetrating end (160), the penetrating end (160) defining outer surfaces leading toward the distal end surface; and an obturator sleeve (104) coaxially mounted about the obturator member (106) and adapted for reciprocal longitudinal movement between a retracted position and an extended position, the obturator sleeve (104) having a nose (124) adjacent the penetrating end (160), the outer surfaces of the penetrating end (160) at least partially exposed from the nose (124) when in the extended position of the obturator sleeve (104). |
