PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a vehicle periphery monitoring device for grasping presence/absence of an object distant upward from the road surface as an example.SOLUTION: A vehicle periphery monitoring device of an embodiment includes: an information acquisition part which acquires imaging data output from an imaging part which is provided to the vehicle to pick up the periphery of the vehicle, and a detection result output from a ranging part which is provided to the vehicle, emits waves to the imaging area of the imaging part to detect reflected waves of the waves; and a determination part which determines whether or not there is an object distant upward from the road surface in the imaging area by using the imaging data and the detection result.
