PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a development device and an image forming apparatus, which are capable of preventing occurrence of toner covering a background portion.SOLUTION: A development device includes: a housing 301 for housing a developer; transport screws (a supply screw 211 and an agitation screw 212) for transporting the developer; a bearing part (a bearing 410) for supporting the rotation shaft of a transport screw; a ring-form magnetic seal 412 that is disposed at a position opposite to the rotation shaft, in its axial direction, of the transport screw in the housing 301 and disposed circumferentially the rotation shaft of the transport screw in the axial direction; a space section 430 formed between the magnetic seal 412 and bearing part; a humidity control part (a humidifier 186 and a drive part 188) for adjusting humidity inside the space section 430; and a control part 101 for controlling the humidity adjustment part so as to adjust humidity inside the space section 430 in accordance with the difference in magnitude between the humidity inside the space section 430 and that inside the housing 301. |
