PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for controlling an internal combustion engine, which achieves control excellent in quick-response property free from control delay.SOLUTION: An electronic control unit (ECU) 0 that is the device for controlling an internal combustion engine, detects a pre-extremal value time that is the time from ignition till a maximum of combustion state comes, estimates a rotation number of the internal combustion engine based on the pre-extremal value time, and determines a required ignition timing based on an estimation rotation number that is the estimated rotation number, whereby the required ignition timing is determined while rapidly responding conditions of the combustion state and ignition timing control with high quick-response property is achieved by a response that is quicker than before. As a result, a sharp rise in the rotation number due to a control delay is suppressed during starting up, and also unnecessary vibration due to the sharp rise is effectively reduced. |
