The tachometer (10) has a support cap (12) rotating around a rotational axis (D). A pointer flag (14) is rotationally rigidly held at the support cap. A light cap (18) is arranged at the support cap, and emits light based on a rotational speed displayed by the pointer flag. The light cap is moved relative to the support cap on an observer of the tachometer in a direction of the rotational axis. A distance of movement of the light cap in the direction of the axis depends on the displayed rotational speed. A pin (26) is arranged at a lower side (24) of the light cap. An independent claim is also included for a method for displaying a rotational speed of a drive assembly of a motor car.
