The apparatus has an evaporator (4) transferring waste heat to a working medium (M). A driven turbine (6) is provided with the working medium. The turbine is provided with multiple inlet nozzles with a fixed predetermined geometry of the working medium. The turbine is switched between different combinations of the inlet nozzles, where the different combinations form a switching circuit for different current mass flow of the working medium. A mass flow region is formed between a minimum mass current and a maximum mass flow. An independent claim is also included for a method for utilizing waste heat of a combustion engine of a motor vehicle.
