PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the intelligibility of a reproduced audio signal (for example, a far-end speech signal).SOLUTION: A spatially selective processing (SSP) filter SS10 performs a spatially selective processing operation on an M-channel sensing audio signal S10 (where M is an integer greater than one) to produce a source signal S20 and a noise reference S30. An equalizer EQ10 dynamically alters the spectral characteristics of a reproduced audio signal S40 on the basis of information from the noise reference S30 to produce an equalized audio signal S50. For example, the equalizer EQ10 is configured to use the information from the noise reference S30 to boost at least one frequency subband of the reproduced audio signal S40 relative to at least one other frequency subband of the reproduced audio signal S40 to produce the equalized audio signal S50.
