Magnetically soft cores of iron-silicon mixture manufacture e.g. for LF applications

Waste material is reduced to an iron-silicon (FeSi) powder mixture at less than 200 deg K. The powder is made non- conducting by mixing with an H2O /H2 mixture. A mix of FeSi material and Al powder is placed in a magnetic field for particle orientation and is then sintered in a magnetic field with the temperature greater than 500 deg K. The mechanical system has a vessel 2 with a piston having permanent magnets 4, as does the fixed tool
