Heat storage medium for thermal energy storage of a solar thermal power plant, comprises a mixture of at least two inorganic sulfate and/or carbonate, and at least one kind of inorganic nanoparticles. An independent claim is also included for producing the above heat storage medium, comprising mixing the components of the heat storage medium and heating until a water-free mixture is obtained.
