The method involves actuating two reversible darkenable windows (2, 3) of a vehicle in dependence of a common reference guide (Ts) such that the windows are controlled based on a common reference variable with respect to a window-specific response. A uniform transparency change is caused by a change in a reference variable for the windows with respect to rate of change and stationary transparency value, where the transparency reference value is provided as reference guide. Window-specific manipulated variable for each window is determined. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a lightness control unit for a vehicle (2) a darkening device for a vehicle.
