TISSUE STOP FOR SURGICAL INSTRUMENT A surgical instrument (100) for surgically joining tissue is provided. The surgical instrument (100) comprises an end effector (154) including: a first jaw member (130) and a second jaw member (140), at least one jaw member (130, 140) being movable with respect to the other jaw member (130, 140) between spaced and approximated positions, the first jaw member (130) having a tissue contacting surface (134) defining slots (136) for retaining staples; a stop member (170) disposed adjacent a distal portion (137) of the first jaw member (130), the stop member (170) having a body and being pivotable with respect to the first jaw member (130) between a first position in which proximal surfaces of the body are substantially orthogonal to the tissue contacting surface (134) of the first jaw member (130), and a second position capturing the tissue between the first jaw member (130) and second jaw member (140), the body of the stop member (170) having an angled surface that facilitates introduction of the tissue. |
