A system for measuring opening extent of a variable valve according to an embodiment of the present invention is a system for measuring opening extent of a variable valve installed in a muffler including the variable valve, and includes: a connection part combined to the variable valve; a sensor part which is installed outside the muffler by being separated from the connection part in a predetermined distance, and comprises a winding device inside, and outputs a signal according to rotation displacement by sensing the rotation displacement of the winding device; and a wire which is connected to the connection part and the winding device, and is wound around or unraveled from the winding device selectively according to the opening and closing of the variable valve. Also, a method for measuring opening extent of a variable valve according to an embodiment of the present invention uses the system for measuring opening extent of a variable valve, and includes the steps of: outputting a signal according to a rotation displacement by sensing the rotation displacement of the winding device through the amount of wire wound and the amount of wire unraveled connected to the winding device; expressing an output signal according to the rotation displacement of the winding device as a displacement graph; and grasping the opening extent of the variable valve by comparing the displacement graph with RPM data about the rotation displacement of the winding device.
