PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric heating type catalyst converter capable of effectively improving activity of noble metal catalyst of a catalyst coat layer formed on a region of a base material corresponding to a region free from a mat due to existence of an electrode, thereby achieving early activity of the entire noble metal catalyst, with respect to the electric heating type catalyst converter in which the insulating mat is disposed between an outer pipe and the base material.SOLUTION: An electric heating type catalyst converter 10 includes an outer pipe 1 having a hollow 1a, an exothermic base material 3 disposed in the hollow 1a and having a catalyst coat layer 7, an insulating mat 2 disposed between the outer pipe 1 and the base material 3, a pair of electrodes 4A, 4B mounted on a surface of the base material 3 in the region free from the mat, and an external circuit 4C connecting the pair of electrodes 4A, 4B. The carrying density of the noble metal catalyst of the catalyst coat layer 7 on the base material 3B corresponding to the region free from the mat, is relatively higher than that of the noble metal catalyst of the catalyst coat layer 7 on the base materials 3A, 3C corresponding to the regions having the mat. |
