The charging cable has two connectors at ends, particularly standardized according to International organization for standardization or International electrotechnical commission (ISO or IEC)-6158. A logic unit is arranged in connectors or in the cable itself, and is connected to the proximity and to a pilot conductor. The charging cable is addressed by a charging station in such a way that the charging station detects based on the proximity, if the charging cable is provided with an expanded functionality. An independent claim is included for a method for detecting a charging cable.
