Producing workpiece with rotationally symmetric hardened surface region

A method for producing a workpiece with a rotationally symmetric hardened surface region consists in applying a carrier film with powdered alloying elements to the surface to be hardened, rotation of the workpiece installed on a spindle about its axis of rotation, and forming a hardened surface region by application of heat. The method is characterised by: (a) the alloying elements are rolled into the surface region to be hardened, so that they are stored in the surface and increase its hardness; (b) rolling takes place by at least one pressure roll which is applied radially; (c) in the same setup, the workpiece is subjected to chipless forming operations. Also claimed is an apparatus for implementing the proposed method.
