Filter for liquids

Liquids, e.g. fuel or oil, are treated in a filter comprising a housing (10) containing a filter insert (16), with an inlet for untreated liquid and an outlet for filtered liquid. A seal (23) is provided at the point of contact between the housing and its cover (12) and axial and radial forces are exerted on it when the cover is fitted. With relative movement between the cover and the housing, a seal is thus formed in both axial and radial directions. Preferably, a seal groove (22) is provided in the cover and a shoulder (20) on the housing has a sloping end face (21) which acts on the oval-shaped seal. The housing and cover are joined by a screw connection (19).
