摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optimize an energization time for energizing a primary coil of an ignition coil for spark ignition and thereby suppress wasteful consumption of unnecessary energy.SOLUTION: When a primary coil of an ignition coil is energized previous to spark ignition by an ignition plug provided in a cylinder, a control device for a spark ignition type internal combustion engine learns a time required for the magnitude of a primary current flowing through the primary coil to reach a value large enough to cause spark discharge in the ignition plug from the start of the energization to the primary coil (from a time point tto a time point t). Upon ignitions after the learning, the control device determines the timing for starting the energization to the primary coil on the basis of the previously learned required time. Thus, a wasteful energization time after the magnitude of the primary current reaches the value large enough to cause spark discharge until the primary current is interrupted (from the time point tto a time point t) is shortened.
