A yarn tensioning device in a weft yarn feeding device (F) for a rapier loom has a concentric tensioning surface (5, 5a, 5b) arranged at the front of a stationary feeding drum (T), a coaxial pull-off eyelet (11), and a non-rotary tensioning element (E) made of an extension- and wear-resistant, thin-walled and locally deformable material axially and resiliently pressed with a continuous bearing surface (20) in the circumferential direction against the tensioning surface. The non-rotary tensioning element forms with the tensioning surface a tensioning zone for the weft yarn which when it is pulled off revolves as a pointer around the pull-off eyelet (11). The tensioning surface (5, 5a, 5b) delimits the front of the feeding drum (T), in the pulling-off direction, and the tensioning element (E) is a smooth ring (7) radially arranged in relation to the feeding drum (T), and spring-loaded at its side opposite (21) to the bearing surface (20) in such a way that is local deformability in the area through which the weft yarn (Y) passes through the tensioning zone is preserved in spite of the spring-loading. The pull-off eyelet (11) is arranged separately from the ring (7) with its inlet opening arranged axially behind or at the most within the radial plane of the tensioning surface (5, 5a, 5b).
