The invention concerns novel leather-treatment agents obtained by polymerizing a1) between 70 and 100 wt % acrylic acid and/or methacrylic acid and/or their acid chlorides or anhydrides with a2) between 0 and 30 wt % of further water-soluble monomers which can be copolymerized with a1), and a3) between 0 and 20 wt % of water-insoluble monomers which can be copolymerized with a1) and a2), reacting the polymer with fatty amines, and neutralizing and emulsifying the polymer modified in this way, the amines not bound to the polymer optionally being transformed with (meth)acrylic acid into N-substituted beta-aminopropionic acids. The invention further concerns the preparation of these leather-treatment agents and their use for producing low-fogging leathers.
