PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To estimate an amount of a pigment composition deposited on a skin of a subject from an image captured under general environment.SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus comprises: an extraction section; a light attenuation amount calculation section; and a pigment amount calculation section. The extraction section extracts a wavelength signal value of each of a plurality of pixels from image data containing the plurality of pixels. The light attenuation amount calculation section calculates a light attenuation amount on the basis of a ratio between the wavelength signal value of an object pixel out of the wavelength signal values and a representative signal value obtained from the wavelength signal values of a local area around the object pixel. The pigment amount calculation section calculates a pigment amount of a predetermined pigment composition in the object pixel by resolving the light attenuation amount by using an absorbance ground state of the predetermined pigment composition.
